Botanical name : Spondias pinnata (L. f.) Kurz
Synonym : Spondias mangifera Willd.
Vernacular name : Amra / Hog Plum/ Wild mango
Family : Anacardiaceae
About the Tree : A medium-sized deciduous tree, occasionally planted as a shade tree. Native to India.
Height : Up to 27 m tall.
Bark : Smooth, surface grey to pale brown with irregular cracks, exuding a clear, sticky sap with a turpentine smell.
Leaf : Leaves compound, imparipinnate, alternate, clustered at twig ends, 18-50 cm long, petioles 5-15 cm long, leaflets 4-5 pairs with terminal one, leaflet lamina 6-14 x 5-7 cm, elliptic to oblong, apex caudate to acuminate, base obliquely rounded, margin entire (or serrate-crenate in young leaves).
Flower : Inflorescence in panicles axillary, flowers white, small polygamous, sub sessile.
Fruits : Fruit is rounded (ovoid) shaped, one-seeded drupe, 1.5-5 x 1-3.5 cm in size, yellow when ripe with a finely flavored, edible pulp. Seeds stony.
Season : It is perennial. Flowering time is between March-April and Fruiting occurs between November-December.
Medicinal Properties

Peculiar Character
: Used traditionally as anthelmintic, anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic, anti-tumor, antibacterial, and to regulate menstruation. Bark used for treatment of diabetes.

: Fruits made into pickles and chutney and are a good thirst quencher.
