About : Hibiscus rosa-sinensis is national flower of Malaysia. rosa-sinensis means rose of China. Hibiscus has most complicated genetic heritage of any group of ornamental plants. There are more than 10,000 varieties of tropical Hibiscus. Hibiscus rosa-sinensis is a bushy, evergreen shrub or small tree growing 2.5-5 m (8-16 ft) tall and 1.5-3 m (5-10 ft) wide, with glossy leaves and solitary. The leaves are alternate, ovate to lanceolate, often with a toothed or lobed margin. Brilliant different color of flowers (including red, pink, orange, purple, white etc.) in summer and autumn. The 5-petaled flowers are 10 cm (4 in) in diameter, with prominent orange-tipped red anthers. Many species are grown for their showy flowers or used as landscape shrubs, and are used to attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. NEERI campus has variety of Hibiscus plants present. Hibiscus tea is popular as a natural diuretic; it contains vitamin C and minerals, and is used traditionally as a mild medicine.
