Botanical name : Jasminum officinale L.
Common Name : Jui / Jasmine
Family : Oleaceae
Synonym : Jasminum affine Royle ex Lindl.
About : Common jasmine is a shrubby deciduous vine. Leaves are Opposite, leaflets 3-7, the terminal one much larger than the rest, all ovate or lanceolate, acuminate. Inflorescences are terminal corymbs or cymes. Flowers are white, fragrant, calyx tube 2-5 mm long, lobes 5, Corolla tube 12-16 mm long, lobes about as long, ovate or elliptic. Fruits are ovoid and black when ripe, full of crimson juice. Fruiting and flowering occurs in the month of May to june. It is native to China and India. Oil obtained from the plant has a soothing effect and is used in aromatherapy. The whole plant is considered to be anthelmintic and diuretic.
